Finger Warm up for Climbing

**How to Warm Up Your Fingers Like a Pro with the Tension Block and Loading Pin**

Not sure how to warm up your finger before your climbing or ninja warrior session. Rudy, our in-house Chiropractor and Climbing Coach breaks down how to use the Tension Block and Loading Pin. Let’s dive in!

### What’s a Tension Block?

The Tension Block is a super versatile tool designed to help you warm up and strengthen your fingers. It’s got different slots with varying edge sizes (measured in millimeters), so you can customize your warm-up based on your skill level and goals.

For beginners or a safe starting point, it is recommended you use the **20mm edge**—it’s the thickest one and the easiest to grip. But no matter which edge you choose, the key is proper form.

The Half Crimp:

When using the Tension Block, you’ll want to use a grip called the **half crimp**. Here’s how it works:

1. Slot your fingers into the edge.

2. Maintain a **90-degree bend** at the middle joint of your fingers.

(see video)

This grip helps you build finger strength while reducing the risk of injury. It’s all about control and precision.

Leveling Up with the Loading Pin

Now, to make things more interesting (and challenging), we use a **loading pin**. This is where you can add weight to customize your warm-up. Here’s how it works:

1. Choose your edge (start with the 20mm if you’re new to this).

2. Add weight to the pin based on your strength level.

3. Clip the loading pin to the Tension Block.

Once you’re set up, it’s time for the **no-hang lift**. Here’s how to do it:

- Get into your half crimp grip.

- Engage your fingers and lift the weight off the ground.

- Lower it back down and repeat for your desired amount of time. (see video)

This movement is perfect for warming up your fingers and getting them ready for action.

Why This Matters:

Warming up your fingers is *crucial* for preventing injuries and improving performance. Whether you’re tackling a tough boulder problem or swinging through a ninja course, strong, warm fingers are your best friend.
